In some games I use the "Tilde ~" key, CapsLock, Tab, etc. Mumble actually has a really great Voice Activation config, but unless you're on a server with everyone running open mic and everyone has agreed that the "extra" noises are worth it, use Push to Talk. you'll likely transmit sighs, heavy breathing, sneezes etc. Otherwise, even with the best fiddling around with activation settings etc. As others have said, Push To Talk is the most polite way to go. If you're interested in finding a Mumble or TS3 server for your gaming group, PM me and I can probably direct you to a few good providers I know of.ģ. Instead, buy those with jacks and buy whatever "jacks to USB" sound card you find best. There are a ton of ways to connect this thing, but for voice coms one reason I like the MixAmp over the wireless version is that you can use it as a USB audio device and route your music/game sounds through your speakers while putting your VOIP exclusively through your headset.ĭepending on how you have things set up (ie speakers or no speakers) its usually a good idea not to get a headset that ONLY terminates in USB because that limits their variability at least for my uses.

I also have an Astro Gaming A40 with MixAmp.

My primary headset is a Sennheiser PC350 Xense Edition (modded) which has a pair of big ass RCA jacks - ever since my speakers died this is my main audio. Sure, you can make do with a webcam or desktop mic but you're going to bring in lots of extra noise that will make you harder to understand and annoy people unless you live in a bubble. Generally for gaming use, you'll need some sort of mic-near-your-mouth.
